The longer yellow wire connects to a source of +12V switched ignition to turn the alternator on and off with the key.  This also prevents the Check Battery light from lighting in the cluster.  Can also be modified and hard wired to +12V switched ignition for engine swap applications where the stock harness is not available.  No wire cutting or splicing!

This harness is included with all Mechman alternators that require it to function properly.  Not using it in the 6 phase style Mechman alternators will generally create a low RPM no charge/battery light.  If it’s included with the alternator, then you need it!

Wiring Instructions

1. Plug the connector into the alternator.
2. Connect the vehicle’s factory harness to the mating connector, regardless of how many wires are present on the factory harness.
3. Route the included yellow wire to a source of +12V switched power.  This should be live in the RUN position, but not in the ACCY position.

Applications

Most 1996-2004 GM based vehicles using 250 Amp or larger alternators.
